A step-by-step playbook from our successful onboardings: tools, rituals, and communication frameworks that make remote onboarding feel seamless.
01.Why the First 72 Hours Define Everything
Research on new hire retention consistently shows that the first three days have an outsized impact on 90-day performance. For remote hires especially across time zones the stakes are even higher. Without passive absorption of office culture, everything must be intentional.
02.Hour 0–8: Pre-boarding
The 72-hour clock starts before day one. At UpTye, we ensure equipment and access credentials are delivered at least 48 hours in advance. We create a personal onboarding page with role overview, team org chart, first-week schedule, key communication channels, and a curated reading list.
03.Hour 8–24: Day One Rituals
Schedule a welcome call with the full team. Keep it casual shared interests, fun facts, a quick round of what everyone is working on. Then a 1:1 with their manager to review the first two weeks of work. No deliverables yet only clarity on expectations, communication norms, and feedback cycles.
04.Hour 48–72: First Contribution
By hour 72, they should have delivered their first piece of work however small. The specifics matter less than the principle: they are already a contributor, not an observer. This is how we've helped companies deploy teams in as little as 5 days.
